What is tarnish and what is the antitarnish agent?

Preguntas Generales

Silver does not become black because it is "dirty," but because it is easily tarnished. This is because silver tarnishes when it is exposed to sulfur in the atmosphere. It is because of this that silverware becomes black when it comes in contact with egg yolk (for example, if you eat a soft boiled egg with a silver spoon). This is because of the high content of sulfur in the egg yolk.

If your silver item does not become black, it means it is not really made from silver, or its silver content is low (sterling silver is the maximum purity grade for silver: 92.5%).

All SilverBrite® products contain an antitarnish agent in addition to the cleaning agent. The antitarnish agent protects your jewelry with an invisible coating and makes it shine longer without becoming tarnished again.

Which SilverBrite® product can I use to clean Coral?

Preguntas Generales

What makes coral shiny in jewelry is a wax coating. Its brightness cannot be restaured with the SilverBrite® Jewelry Cleaner Instant Dip.

In addition, coral is a porous substance that absorbs any kind of liquid it comes into contact with. The best way to clean your coral jewelry is using the SilverBrite® Jewelry Cleaning Cloth. This non-abrasive cloth will help to clean and restore the brightness to your coral.

What SilverBrite® product can I use to clean Pearls?

Preguntas Generales

If your jewelry item includes other precious or semi-precious stones and if its design has a lot of nooks and crannies (i.e. a pearl ring with diamonds), the SilverBrite® Jewelry Cleaner Instant Dip will be able to clean your item more thoroughly.

Even though Pearls are porous like Coral, their pores are much smaller and their shine is natural. Therefore, the Jewelry Cleaner Instant Dip will not be absorbed inside the pearl.

However, if the item you wish to clean is a pearl necklace, the SilverBrite® Jewelry Cleaning Cloth will be the most appropriate method, since the material commonly used to thread the pearls is made from natural fibers. If you use the liquid to clean your pearls, it may dampen the thread. In addition, with the Jewelry Cleaning Cloth you can clean and restore the brightness to your pearls without getting wet or making a mess!
